Dennis Modracek
Cornet

dennybluebird@yahoo.com

Joined the EIBB in 1988. Started playing trumpet in 1960.

Grew up in east central Iowa...the Shueyville, Swisher and Ely triangle or trapezoid if you consider Fairfax.
It took Dennis two and a half years to do what Steve Kenny did in seven...become a UNI dropout.
Currently Dennis is a maintenance worker at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon.

Dennis says that his favorite memories while a part of the band is, "A toss-up between playing for the Olympic Torch ceremony on May's Island in Cedar Rapids where sixty thousand people assembled and receiving second place in Lexington Kentucky, the first year we competed in the Championship division.
Oh yes, almost forgot...Bob Driggs narrating and duck calling, and Todd Bransky dancing, and the most fun ever...sitting in between Paul W. and Steve K. on Thursday nights. All of it ... priceless!,

Not so much a single event, but maybe when someone comes up and asks, "Is that a drum?" when I'm carrying a gong. Or anytime the director signals us to stand and face the audience and Steve Kenny is standing behind me.,
Favorite pieces (can't choose just one): Nicea, Abide With Me, Kingdom Triumphant...I like the hymns!
Place to play: Turner Hall, Galena, Illinois"

Dennis goes on to say, " I like all music, even woodwinds. I like to watch Lifetime Movie Network (movies for women, by women). I am considering the "Think System" of excercise and diet. I totally love my family. I would like to thank my wife, Judy, for sharing her life with me and for repeatedly telling me that I can't quit this band. This band has some of the most unique people on earth and some of the best friends in my life and I am so fortunate to be a part of it."
