Due to record flooding from the nearby Cedar River, Ushers Ferry Historic Village has been closed. The flood left behind soggy grounds and ruined buildings. Watch a 2 minute video shot at the village by the Cedar Rapids Gazette around the first of August, 2008.

In 1993 (the last big flood event) the river crested at approximately 19 feet and the water was up on the steps of the gazebo.

In 2008, the river rose to just a little over 31 feet, cresting on the morning of Friday, June 13. 28 of the 30 buildings in the village sustained water damage. Reports are that the water was up to the roof of the porch on the hotel.

There was reportedly 4 feet of water inside the schoolhouse. And water was right up to the Visitors Center, but did not get inside.
